OK, Admit It... Size DOES Matter!

Posted by C. Mason Hearn in remodeling, kitchens

Hello - doing a kitchen makeover and keeping the original cabinets (30 yrs old but solid wood). Problem is the Kenmore wall oven in a cabinet is 23" - the cabinet holding it is 27". I've searched the net, there are no more 23" wall ovens out there. I can't think of how I can fit one it, or make the existing cabinet any bigger. Replacing the cabinet would be difficult to match color & quality. Any suggestions? Please help!!! Thanks!

Chrissie,

Who writes the "mind-in-the-gutter" titles for these entries, anyway?  (Change the subject)  Hey, I have good news for you.  I just saved a lot of money on my car insurance!

No, really....  The good news is, I think you're looking for the wrong thing.  I believe that you should be seeking what is known as a 24" wall oven.  The measurement referred-to is the width of the exterior trim.  A 24" wall oven typically fits into a cabinet cutout width of 22" - 23".

24" wall ovens are not as common as 27" or 30", so you will not have an unlimited number of styles to choose from, but most of the major appliance manufacturers make at least on model of this size.

I have nothing against the national big-box stores (you'll see me there at least once a weekend), but especially when you're looking for more-obscure equipment, I highly recommend that you should consult with an appliance expert.  They can inform about the availability of appliances beyond what's on the showroom floor.  In the Richmond area, try Cosby's (804-264-8356) or Cline / Ferguson (804-379-9600).

Then you may get back to shakin' and bakin'... and Mason helped!
